8:45 am :

Arrival and Suit Up

Your guide will call you at your hotel one day in advance or leave a message to confirm the pick-up time. You will be picked up at around 7:15 am from your hotel.

Upon arrival at the panda base, sign in and change into your uniform. Your guide will introduce you to the professional panda keepers. The panda keepers can speak simple English, and your guide will stay with you throughout the day to assist with translation.

9:00 am :

Prepare Bamboo for Pandas

Panda volunteers supply fresh bamboo three times a day. You will break bamboo and wash bamboo shoots together with the panda keepers. You will also clean the glass of the panda enclosures.

10:00 am :

Roam Around with an Expert Panda Guide

Take a short break and tour around the panda base. Our guides are true panda enthusiasts — familiar with the base and highly knowledgeable about panda care and conservation. Some have even hosted live panda cam feeds on Facebook and YouTube.

There are about 10 Giant Pandas at the base, including overseas returnees such as Tai Shan and Bao Bao from the United States. You will also have the opportunity to see four lively Red Pandas.

Lunch Time

Have lunch with the panda keepers at the staff canteen inside the panda base.

12:00 pm :

Watch a Panda Movie

During this session, you will gain a better understanding of the daily work of panda caretakers, basic panda knowledge, and the ultimate goal of panda conservation.

13:00 pm :

Make Panda Cakes and Cut Bamboo Leaves

After observing the panda keepers feed panda cakes, you will make panda cakes by hand using pre-prepared ingredients. You can be creative with the shapes. You will also cut bamboo leaves into small pieces for elderly pandas.

14:30 pm :

Receive a Certificate

The volunteer program concludes at this time. You will receive a certificate to commemorate this unforgettable day. After saying goodbye to the pandas you have cared for, your guide and driver will escort you back to your hotel in Chengdu, arriving at around 4:00 pm.
