Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

A UNESCO World Heritage site, this park is a vertical labyrinth of stone. The unique quartz-sandstone peaks, some towering over 200 meters, served as the visual prototype for the “Hallelujah Mountains” in James Cameron’s Avatar. Wander through the Golden Whip Stream to see the pillars from below, or ascend to the Yuanjiajie area to witness the “First Bridge under Heaven.” It is a place of primal beauty where emerald forests cling to sheer cliffs, often shrouded in a sea of clouds that makes the mountains appear to be floating in mid-air.

The world’s first "Avatar" inspiration—a majestic forest of over 3,000 soaring sandstone pillars rising from deep, misty canyons.
