Ulungur Lake

Ulungur Lake is a startling blue anomaly in the dry expanse of the Junggar Basin. As one of China’s ten largest freshwater lakes, it serves as a vital oasis for migratory birds and local fishing communities. The lake’s vast, reed-lined shores offer a serene retreat from the desert heat. In summer, it is a haven for Nature & Adventure, where the water meets the golden dunes of the shore. In winter, it becomes the stage for the ancient “Ice Fishing” festival—a masterclass in Local Life Immersion where nomads and fishermen harvest giant fish through thick ice, a tradition that has survived for centuries.
